In August 2025, New Zealand experienced a 7.5% increase in visitor arrivals compared to the previous year, with the total reaching 230,300. This surge is primarily attributed to an influx of travelers from Australia, with Australian arrivals numbering 103,060, marking an increase of 8,500 visitors and setting a new record for the month of August. Growth was also observed in arrivals from China, Taiwan, and Japan, with increases of 1,700, 1,600, and 1,200 visitors, respectively. Overall arrivals in August 2025 represented 92% of the figures from August 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Australians made up 53% of all visitors, a rise from 49% in July 2019. Visitors from China contributed 9%, while those from the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom accounted for 5%, 4%, and 3% respectively.
