Beijing has declared its intention to implement countermeasures against the United States should President Donald Trump proceed with his proposed 100% tariffs on Chinese imports. Responding to Beijing's recent export restrictions, President Trump announced on Friday that these additional tariffs, coupled with fresh limitations on the export of critical software, are scheduled to be enforced by November 1. This intensification of tensions threatens to disrupt the progress achieved over several months in trade negotiations. A spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce commented on Sunday, marking Beijing's first official reaction to the threat, as reported by CNN: "Employing the threat of steep tariffs is not an appropriate approach for engaging with China. Should the US continue to act unilaterally, China will firmly adopt corresponding measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests," the spokesperson stated. "We maintain a consistent stance on a tariff war — we do not seek one, but we are prepared to face one if necessary."
