U.S. President Donald Trump is still scheduled to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea in late October, as efforts to ease tensions regarding tariff threats and export controls continue, according to U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. Speaking on Monday, Bessent highlighted significant communication between the two nations over the weekend and indicated further meetings are anticipated. "We have made substantial progress in de-escalating tensions," Bessent stated in an interview with Fox Business Network, as reported by Reuters. "President Trump announced that the tariffs will be postponed until November 1. He is set to meet with Party Chair Xi in Korea, and I am confident that the meeting will proceed as planned." Initially, Trump and Xi were expected to meet during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, set to take place in South Korea in late October.
