In September 2025, the number of payrolled employees in the United Kingdom decreased by 10,000, bringing the total to 30.3 million. This followed a revised increase of 10,000 in the prior month. Year-on-year, payrolled employment declined by 0.3%, equating to 100,000 fewer employees, with the most significant drop occurring in the accommodation and food service sector, which lost 59,000 jobs. Regionally, Westminster experienced the steepest decline in payrolled employees, down 2.9%, whereas Mid Ulster saw the largest rise with a 1.8% increase. On the salary front, the median monthly pay rose 5.5% from the previous year, reaching £2,546. The transportation and storage sector posted the highest annual growth in median pay at 8.0%, while the professional, scientific, and technical sector reported the lowest growth, at 3.0%.
