China Car Sales Rise 14.9% in September

In September 2025, vehicle sales in China rose by 14.9% compared to the previous year, reaching a nine-month peak of 3.226 million units. This follows a 16.4% increase in August, as reported by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). The sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) experienced a significant boost, climbing 24.6% year-on-year for the sixth month in a row. Over the first nine months of 2025, the total vehicle sales have risen by 12.9%, whereas NEV sales have jumped 34.9%. In a recent move, eight government departments, including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, have set goals aiming for approximately 32.3 million vehicle sales in 2025, reflecting a year-on-year increase of about 3%. Sales of NEVs are anticipated to hit around 15.5 million units, representing a year-on-year growth rate of roughly 20%.
