Hungary's construction sector experienced a notable downturn in August 2025, with output plummeting by 15.2% compared to the same month the previous year. This decrease comes after a period of four months of consistent growth, which had culminated in a 4.9% increase in July. Specifically, civil engineering saw a substantial contraction of 34.8%, following a modest 4.7% increase in the prior month. Likewise, the building construction segment recorded a 2.3% decrease after experiencing a 5.7% rise earlier. In terms of monthly performance adjusted for seasonality, construction output dropped by 11.4% in August, negating the 0.8% improvement observed in July.
