Bulgaria experienced an increase in its annual inflation rate, reaching 5.6% in September 2025, up from 5.3% over the previous two months. This rate is the highest since October 2023, attributed to rising prices across various sectors. Specifically, the costs associated with alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose to 7.8% from 7.7% in August. Clothing and footwear saw an increase from 0.5% to 0.8%, while housing utilities climbed to 8.7% from 8.5%. The communication sector posted an increase to 5.6% from 4.8%, and prices in recreation and culture surged to 19.1%, up from 14.1%. The education sector noted a rise to 9.4% from 8.1%, and the restaurant and hotel industry saw inflation increase to 10.8% from 9%. Additionally, miscellaneous goods and services experienced a rise to 5.2% from 4.5%. After previous decline, costs for furnishings and household equipment and maintenance rebounded to 0.7% from -0.3%. In contrast, inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages eased to 6.2% from 6.9%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices saw a decline of 0.8% in September, reversing the 0.1% increase recorded in the prior period.
