As of October 16, 2025, the average interest rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage has decreased to 6.27%, compared to 6.30% the previous week, marking the second consecutive week of decline, according to a survey by Freddie Mac, a leading mortgage institution. "We've observed a slight reduction in mortgage rates this week, and they have remained relatively stable over the past few weeks. This consistent trend of lower rates has spurred an increase in refinancing activity among homeowners. When combined with the rise in housing inventory and slower house price growth, these conditions are fostering a more favorable market for prospective homebuyers," stated Sam Khater, Freddie Mac’s Chief Economist.
