The annual inflation rate in Austria showed a slight decline, settling at 4% in September 2025, down from 4.1% in August, aligning with preliminary forecasts. This deceleration was largely attributable to reduced prices in several categories: food and non-alcoholic beverages dropped to 3.9% from 5.2%; alcoholic beverages and tobacco decreased to 3.2% from 3.8%; housing and utilities edged down to 6% from 6.1%; recreation and culture fell to 3.2% from 4.1%; clothing and footwear plummeted to 1.4% from 4.5%; and miscellaneous goods and services reduced to 4.3% from 4.7%. Additionally, the cost for furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance saw a decrease, registering at -0.6% compared to a previous increase of 0.5%. Conversely, inflationary pressures intensified in other areas: transportation costs rose to 2.5% from 1.2%; prices in restaurants and hotels increased slightly to 6.2% from 6.1%; education saw a notable rise to 6.4% from 4.8%; and health expenses grew to 5.3% from 4.6%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices experienced a decline of 0.2% in September, marking the lowest level since January 2021 and reversing the previous month's 0.2% increase.
