German Private Sector Growth Highest Since 2023

In October 2025, the HCOB Flash Germany Composite PMI rose to 53.8, up from 52 in September, surpassing the anticipated forecast of 51.6. This figure indicates the most robust expansion in private sector activity since May 2023. The growth was largely driven by a significant increase in services business activity, which climbed to 54.5—the highest in nearly two-and-a-half years—compared to 51.5 in the previous month. Conversely, the manufacturing sector neared stagnation, registering a slight increase from 49.5 to 49.6. The boost in output was fueled by a renewed surge in new orders, and employment levels edged closer to stabilization as backlogs saw their first uptick since mid-2022. With strengthening growth and rising demand, inflationary pressures intensified, marked by faster increases in both input costs and average prices for goods and services. The rates of inflation have now reached the fastest pace observed in eight months. However, there is a general easing in business expectations for the forthcoming year, highlighting the persisting vulnerabilities in the economic environment.
