Swedish Household Lending Growth Highest Since 2023

In September 2025, the annual growth rate for lending to Swedish households experienced a slight increase, reaching 2.8%, up from 2.7% in August. This marks the highest rate since February 2023. Of the total household lending, housing loans continue to dominate, comprising 83%, and showed a 2.6% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, consumer loans, which constitute 6% of household lending, saw a growth rate of 4.4%, a decrease from 5.1% in August. For non-financial corporations, lending rose by 2.5% over the year. The average interest rate on new mortgage agreements dropped to 2.80% in September from August's 2.86%, whereas the average fixed rate for new housing loans with terms of 1–5 years was slightly higher at 2.88%. Household deposits fell to SEK 2,860 billion from SEK 2,869 billion the previous month, with 75% being in on-demand accounts.
