Fiji Consumer Prices Drop for 9th Month

In October 2025, consumer prices in Fiji experienced a 3.4% reduction compared to the same month in the previous year, following a 3.8% decrease in September. This marked the most significant annual decline since at least January 2023. The country has now seen nine consecutive months of deflation, though the rate of decline has slightly moderated. The continued reductions were largely seen in the categories of food and non-alcoholic beverages (-8.4% compared to -8.2% in September), transport (-6.2% from -8.1%), housing (-2.5% versus -2.2%), clothing and footwear (-3.9% from -4.1%), and recreation and culture (-1.3% as opposed to -1.2%). Conversely, some categories displayed inflationary pressure, including furnishings, household equipment, and routine maintenance (0.8%, down from 1.0%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (3.9%, up from 3.0%), education (steady at 0.5%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.4% versus 5.8%). On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices decreased by 0.2% in October, offsetting the 0.3% rise observed in September.
