Romania Current Account Gap at Near 1-Year High

As of September 2025, Romania experienced a significant increase in its current account deficit, reaching EUR 3,127 million, a rise from EUR 2,515 million recorded in September of the previous year. This represents the largest shortfall observed since October 2024. The primary income deficit notably expanded, climbing to EUR 1,425 million from EUR 887 million. Additionally, the secondary income account, which previously showed a surplus of EUR 157 million, shifted into a deficit of EUR 19 million. On a more positive note, the goods account deficit saw a reduction, decreasing from EUR 1,784 million to EUR 1,682 million, and the services account surplus experienced a slight increase, moving from EUR 951 million to EUR 967 million. When examining the first nine months of the year, the current account deficit rose to EUR 22,275 million, up from EUR 20,515 million in the same period the previous year.
