Swedish Jobless Rate Rises to 8.9%

In October 2025, Sweden’s unemployment rate rose to 8.9%, up from 7.8% in the same period the previous year. This is the highest unemployment rate recorded since June. Over the past year, the number of unemployed individuals increased by 71,400, reaching a total of 509,100, while employment numbers saw an increase of 21,800, bringing the total employed population to 5.214 million. Despite these changes, the employment rate held steady at 68.2%. Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate experienced a 1% increase, rising to 74.9%. The nation reported an average of 178.1 million total hours worked per week. When adjusted for seasonal variations, the unemployment rate stands at 9%.
