France Inflation Rate Revised Lower

In October 2024, France's annual inflation rate was adjusted downward to 0.9%, from an earlier estimate of 1%, and in contrast to 1.2% in September. Energy costs saw a more significant decline at -5.6% compared to -4.4% previously, with petrol prices decreasing by -1.9% versus -0.4% and electricity prices dropping by -13.8%, slightly more than the previous -13.7%. Gas prices, however, showed a noticeable deceleration, growing by just 1.1% compared to 6.4% earlier. Additionally, the prices of manufactured goods fell by -0.5% rather than -0.4%. The increase in food prices slowed to 1.3%, down from 1.7%, mainly due to a significant drop in fresh vegetable prices, which fell by -7.3%, after previously rising by 2.6%. Service prices remained steady, growing at the same 2.4% rate as the previous month, akin to tobacco prices, which increased by 4.1%. On a monthly basis, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inched up by 0.1% after a decline of 1% in the prior month. Meanwhile, annual core inflation eased to 1.2% from 1.3%.
