Moldova Trade Gap Widens in September

In September 2025, Moldova experienced a trade deficit of USD 591.6 million, a notable increase from the USD 492.7 million deficit recorded in the same month the previous year. Export activities saw a significant rise, increasing by 23.1% compared to the previous year, reaching USD 345.4 million. This growth was largely fueled by heightened sales to EU countries, which rose by 19.1%, CIS countries with a 26.9% increase, and a substantial 36.6% boost in sales to other countries. In contrast, import volumes expanded by 21.2%, totaling USD 937.0 million. This uptick was primarily due to increased acquisitions from EU countries, which climbed by 24.2%, and a 21% rise in imports from other nations. Conversely, imports from CIS countries experienced a decline of 13.4%. Over the first nine months of the year, Moldova's trade deficit grew to USD 5,222.5 million, a marked increase from the USD 3,995.2 million reported for the corresponding period in the previous year.
