In September 2025, Bulgaria experienced a significant current account deficit amounting to EUR 792.9 million, a considerable increase from the EUR 178.9 million deficit recorded during the same month in the prior year. This was the most substantial monthly deficit since December 2008, largely due to a significant expansion in the goods trade gap, which escalated to EUR 845.9 million compared to EUR 410.7 million in September 2024. Furthermore, the primary income deficit surged to EUR 752.4 million from a previous EUR 501.7 million, and the surplus in services diminished to EUR 537.7 million from EUR 669.1 million. Conversely, the surplus within secondary income, encompassing remittances and other current transfers, saw a marked increase to EUR 267.7 million, up from EUR 64.4 million the same period last year.
