China’s Rare Earth Exports to US Jump in October

In October 2025, China's exports of rare earth magnets to the United States saw a significant increase, rising by 56.1% from the previous month to reach 656 tons. This marked the highest export level since January, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on Thursday. The principal recipients of China's rare earth magnets during that period were the US, Germany, South Korea, Vietnam, and India. This development follows China's announcement earlier in the month indicating a temporary suspension of rare earth export control measures for one year. While China is in the process of creating a new licensing framework for rare earths that could potentially expedite shipments, industry insiders have suggested that this will not likely lead to a complete rollback of restrictions, contrary to some expectations in Washington. Despite the monthly surge to the US, total rare earth exports in October dipped by 5.2% compared to September, decreasing from 5,774 metric tons to 5,473 tons. However, this figure represents a 15.8% increase compared to the 4,725 tons exported in the same month of 2024. For the year to date, China’s rare earth exports showed a decline of 5.2% in comparison to the same period last year, amounting to a total of 45,290 tons.
