Chile Unemployment Rate Falls to 8.4%

Chile's unemployment rate stood at 8.4% for the period from August to October 2025, reflecting a decrease of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous year. This improvement can be attributed to employment growth of 1.5%, which outpaced the labor force growth of 1.3%. The participation rate increased to 61.9%, while the employment rate climbed to 56.7%. Notably, women's unemployment decreased to 8.8%, whereas men's unemployment experienced a slight rise to 8.2%. The primary drivers of employment gains were in the services, health, and transport sectors, predominantly within formal job settings. Meanwhile, informal employment declined to 26.2%, with reductions observed in the commerce and manufacturing sectors, as well as among self-employed individuals. The average number of hours worked rose to 36.5 per week. The overall labor underutilization rate was recorded at 16.4%, featuring a gender gap of 4.6 percentage points. In the Metropolitan Region, the unemployment rate fell to 8.6%, accompanied by a 2.1% boost in employment, spearheaded by administrative and information services.
