In October 2025, New Zealand saw a 0.9% decline in building consents for new dwellings on a monthly basis, counteracting a previously revised increase of 7.3% in September. This constitutes the first monthly downturn since June. Seasonally adjusted figures reveal that 3,520 units received approval. This total includes 1,612 townhouses, flats, and units, 194 apartments, and 146 retirement village units. Over the twelve months leading up to October 2025, a total of 35,552 new homes were consented, reflecting a 6.2% increase from the same period ending in October 2024.
