Swiss Retail Sales Growth Picks Up in October

In October 2025, Switzerland witnessed a notable rise in retail sales, increasing by 2.7% compared to the previous year. This growth exceeded market expectations of a 1.2% rise and followed a revised upward growth of 1.8% in September. Non-food products contributed significantly to this upturn, with sales increasing by 4.8% compared to 2.9% the previous month. Sales of other goods experienced an upswing (3.7% from 2.2%), as did information and communication equipment, which soared to 19.8% from 19.1%. A marked rebound was observed in household equipment and furniture sales, surging by 5.1% in contrast to a previous decline of 0.7%, and in cultural and recreational goods, which rose by 1.2% after falling by 1.4%. Service station sales saw a reduction in their rate of decline, improving to -0.1% from -1.2%. However, sales in food, beverages, and tobacco slowed to 0.5% from 1.6%, and online and mail-order sales decelerated slightly to 3.0% from 3.2%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail trade grew by 0.7% in October, following a downwardly revised growth of 0.5% in the preceding period. Excluding fuel, retail sales climbed by 3% year-on-year in October, up from 2.3% in September.
