Baltic Dry Index Rises for 13th Day

The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk index, a barometer for shipping rates of vessels carrying dry commodities, continued its upward trend for the 13th consecutive day on Monday, increasing by 0.9% to reach a new high of 2,583 points, the highest level since December 2023. The capesize index, which generally ships large cargoes like iron ore and coal weighing around 150,000 tons, climbed 1.8% to attain its highest point since December 2023 at 4,563 points. Meanwhile, the supramax index inched up by 1 point to settle at 1,442 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which typically transports 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, declined for the third consecutive session, decreasing by 0.9% to 1,934 points.
