The average interest rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage dropped to 6.23% as of December 4, 2025, marking the lowest rate in a month, as reported by a lender survey conducted by mortgage giant Freddie Mac. "Mortgage rates have decreased for the second consecutive week as we recover from the Thanksgiving holiday. Compared to the same period last year, rates are half a percent lower, providing a more advantageous landscape for both homebuyers and homeowners," stated Sam Khater, Chief Economist at Freddie Mac.
