South Africa Forex Reserves Post Historical High

In November 2025, South Africa's gross foreign exchange reserves reached a record high of $72.07 billion, up from $71.55 billion in October. This increase was primarily driven by rises in gold reserves, which climbed to $16.838 billion from $16.210 billion, and in Special Drawing Rights (SDR) holdings, which grew slightly to $6.502 billion from $6.501 billion. Conversely, foreign currency reserves saw a decline to $48.728 billion from $48.839 billion. Moreover, the central bank's forward position, indicative of unsettled or swap transactions, decreased to $0.552 billion from $0.602 billion in the previous month.
