Baltic Dry Index at Near 1-Week Low

The Baltic Exchange’s dry bulk index, which monitors shipping rates for vessels carrying dry commodities, declined for the third consecutive session on Monday, dropping approximately 1.2% to reach its lowest point in nearly a week at 2,694 points. This decrease was observed across all vessel categories. Specifically, the capesize index, typically associated with shipments of 150,000-ton cargoes like iron ore and coal, fell for the third straight day by 1.4%, settling at 5,013 points. Similarly, the panamax index, which generally transports between 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased by 1.3% to 1,813 points, hitting its lowest level since November 5, and marking its eighth successive day of decline. Meanwhile, the supramax index, representing smaller vessels, dropped by 6 points to 1,430 points.
