Australia Employment Unexpectedly Falls

In November 2025, Australia's employment landscape saw a decline of 21,300, bringing the total employed to 14.66 million. This downturn contrasts sharply with the previous month's adjusted gain of 41,200 and fell short of market expectations, which anticipated a 20,000 increase. The full-time employment sector took a significant hit, decreasing by 56,500 to reach 10.08 million, effectively negating October's revised increase of 53,500. Conversely, part-time employment saw a rise of 35,200, improving upon the earlier adjusted increase of 12,500. This shift resulted in a drop in the employment-to-population ratio, which decreased from 64.0% in October to 63.8%, while the participation rate dipped slightly from 66.9% to 66.7%. Nonetheless, on an annual scale, the total employment figures reflected growth, with an increase of 182,400, equating to a 1.3% rise.
