In October 2025, South Africa experienced a notable increase in mining production, with a year-over-year surge of 5.8%. This follows a revised increase of 1.4% in the previous month, marking the sixth straight month of growth in the industrial sector and the most substantial rise since February 2024. Key contributors to this growth were iron ore, which jumped by 24.8% and added 2.9 percentage points to the overall production; PGMs, which grew by 3.9%, contributing 1.1 points; manganese ore, which climbed by 15.1%, adding 1.0 point; and chromium ore, which increased by 14.1%, contributing 0.8 points. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, mining production also rose by 2.1%, following an upwardly revised 2.6% increase in the month prior.
