Finnish Consumer Morale Remains Weak in December

In December 2025, consumer confidence in Finland declined to -7.3 from -6.5 in the preceding month, remaining significantly below the long-term average of -2.8. This indicates ongoing fragility in overall sentiment. Although households offered a slightly improved assessment of their current economic situation compared to both November and the previous year (-0.2 against November's -2.8), their views remained low. Projections for Finland's broader economy also remained pessimistic (-41.4 compared to -37.1). A majority of consumers still perceived the timing as poor for purchasing durable goods (-16.5 compared to -10.6) or obtaining loans (-30.3 compared to -25.5), with minimal plans for major spending or home buying (-23.9 compared to -20.5). Additionally, there was a persistent high level of concern about unemployment, both generally (-26.7 compared to -27.2) and personally (-15.7 compared to -16.6), with women's confidence in the economy continuing to trail behind that of men. Meanwhile, expectations for personal finances over the next year slightly weakened (7.8 compared to 9.2) but remained close to the long-term average.
