FX.co ★ Portugal Retail Sales Surge at Fastest Pace Since 2022

In November 2025, Portugal experienced an accelerated growth in retail sales, witnessing a 6.4% increase compared to the previous year. This marks an improvement from the revised figure of 4.3% in October and represents the fastest growth rate since April 2022. The expansion in sales was widespread, driven primarily by food, beverages, and tobacco sectors, which grew by 4.9% compared to 4.2% in October. Non-food items also saw significant growth, rising by 9.4% from a previous 5.2%. This category includes computers, telecom equipment, books, and other products, which increased by 10.3% from 8.5%, along with pharmaceuticals and hygiene products up by 9.9% from 9.6%. Textiles, clothing, footwear, and leather goods exhibited a remarkable surge, growing by 14.7% from a mere 0.4%. Household goods sales also saw a modest rise, up 2.6% from 2.1%, as well as online sales, which increased by 2.5% from 0.3%. Conversely, fuel sales experienced a decline of 1.4%, following a slight gain of 0.6% in October. On a month-to-month comparison, retail sales in November climbed by 2.3%, the most substantial rise observed since May.
