Swiss Retail Sales Rise Below Forecasts

In November 2025, retail sales in Switzerland experienced a 2.3% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This figure marks a slight rise from the 2.2% growth recorded in October, though it fell short of the anticipated 2.5% rise. A notable growth was observed in non-food products, excluding fuel, which saw an expansion of 6.2%, up from 4.1% in October. This was driven by strong demand for information and communication equipment, which surged by 12.3%. Additionally, turnover accelerated for sporting and recreational goods, increasing by 4.9% compared to 1.4% in the previous month, as well as for other goods, which grew by 7.5% from 2.9%, and online and mail-order sales, which improved to 5.7% from 1.3%. The retailing of fuel grew by 2.9%, an increase from the previous month's 1.8%. Overall, retail trade excluding fuel stations experienced a slight acceleration, reaching a growth rate of 2.4% up from 2.3% in October. In contrast, the growth in household goods, textiles, and home improvement products slowed to 3.2% from 4.5%, while the sales of food, beverages, and tobacco declined further, decreasing by 1.4% compared to a 0.2% drop in October. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail sales increased by 0.1%, a slight ease from the revised 0.2% growth recorded for October.
