US Private Sector Jobs Show Modest Gain: ADP

Private sector employment in the United States saw an increase of 41,000 jobs in December 2025, following a revised drop of 29,000 jobs in November. This was slightly below the expected gain of 47,000 jobs. The month of December witnessed a recovery in hiring, primarily driven by the education and health services sector, which added 39,000 jobs, and the leisure and hospitality sector, which contributed 24,000 jobs. Additional job growth was recorded in trade, transportation, and utilities with 11,000 jobs, financial activities with 6,000 jobs, natural resources and mining with 1,000 jobs, and construction also with 1,000 jobs. Conversely, job reductions were noted in professional and business services, which lost 29,000 jobs, the information sector with a decrease of 12,000 jobs, and manufacturing with a decline of 5,000 jobs. Small businesses managed to report an increase of 9,000 jobs, recovering from the losses in November. Medium-sized companies expanded by adding 34,000 jobs, while large enterprises saw a modest increase of just 2,000 jobs. On the earnings front, the annual pay growth for employees staying in their current roles remained steady at 4.4%, unchanged from November. However, individuals who changed jobs experienced accelerated pay growth, with the rate rising to 6.6% from 6.3%.
