US Job Quits at 4-Month High in November

In November 2025, the number of individuals voluntarily leaving their jobs in the U.S. rose by 188,000, reaching 3.161 million, up from a revised 2.973 million in October and exceeding the 3.032 million recorded during the same month last year. This marks the highest figure since July of the previous year. The increase in job resignations was notably seen in the accommodation and food services sector, which added 208,000 quits, and construction, which saw an additional 39,000. On the other hand, declines were noted in professional and business services, with 75,000 fewer quits, government with 12,000 less, wholesale trade down by 23,000, and the information sector decreasing by 7,000. The quits rate, which assesses the proportion of voluntary departures to the overall employment, edged up to 2% in November, compared to the revised 1.9% in October. Regionally, the South experienced the largest increase in job quits, rising by 174,000, followed by the Midwest with an increase of 14,000 and the West with an additional 6,000. Conversely, the Northeast saw a slight decline of 7,000 in job quits.
