In November 2025, job openings in the United States decreased by 303,000 to a total of 7.146 million, marking the lowest level since September 2024 and significantly undershooting market predictions of 7.60 million. Notable declines in job openings were observed in several sectors, including accommodation and food services, which fell by 148,000, transportation, warehousing, and utilities dropping by 108,000, and wholesale trade which saw a reduction of 63,000. Conversely, there was an increase in job openings within the construction sector, which added 90,000 positions. Geographically, job openings decreased across all regions: the Northeast experienced a reduction of 34,000 positions, the South saw a decline of 100,000, the Midwest dropped by 91,000, and the West decreased by 78,000. Meanwhile, hires remained relatively steady, and overall separations remained unchanged at 5.1 million. Among separations, both voluntary quits at 3.2 million and layoffs and discharges at 1.7 million showed little variation.
