US Inflation Rate Likely Steady, Core Seen Rising

The United States' annual inflation rate is anticipated to hold steady at 2.7% for December 2025. Concurrently, the core inflation rate is expected to slightly increase to 2.7% from November's figure of 2.6%, which marked the lowest level since early 2021. On a monthly basis, both the headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the core CPI are forecasted to rise by 0.3%, primarily due to an uptick in goods prices. Notably, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) did not release month-over-month data for November due to data collection issues stemming from the government shutdown. The December report may indicate a shift away from the downward inflationary pressures seen in November, though concerns about data quality persist, as distortions related to the shutdown may still impact the figures.
