Portugal Inflation Rate Remains Steady at 7-Month Low of 2.2%

In December 2025, Portugal's annual inflation rate remained steady at 2.2%, marking a seven-month low and aligning with the preliminary estimates. The core inflation rate, which excludes the volatile components of energy and unprocessed food items, rose slightly to 2.1% from November's 2%, also in line with earlier projections. Additionally, the EU-harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP) saw a slight increase to 2.4% in December, up from 2.1% the previous month, positioning it above the European Central Bank's target midpoint for inflation. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices increased by 0.1%, consistent with initial assessments, following a 0.3% decline in the previous month. The average inflation rate for the year 2025 was confirmed at 2.3%, a slight decrease from the 2.4% recorded in the previous year.
