Poland Posts Unexpected Deficit in Current Account

In November 2025, Poland experienced a current account deficit of EUR 460 million, a notable increase from the EUR 281 million recorded in the same period the previous year. This was contrary to market predictions, which anticipated a surplus of EUR 500 million. Specifically, the deficit in goods widened to EUR 1,087 million, compared to EUR 930 million in November 2024, as both exports and imports saw gains of 2.7% and 3.1%, respectively. Furthermore, the primary income deficit increased to EUR 2,069 million from EUR 1,891 million, due to adverse outcomes in direct investment income and payments associated with portfolio and other investments. On a more positive note, the services surplus expanded to EUR 2,906 million from the previous year's EUR 2,863 million, and the secondary income deficit showed improvement, narrowing to EUR 0.21 billion from EUR 0.32 billion.
