Malta Inflation Eases to 3-Month Low

Malta's annual inflation rate eased to 2.4% in December 2025, down from 2.5% in November, marking the lowest level since September. This decrease was primarily fueled by persistent deflation in clothing and footwear prices, which fell by 3.2%, a sharper decline than the 1.7% drop observed in November. Additionally, there was a further decline in prices for communication services (down 5.5% compared to 5% previously), while inflation moderated in the restaurant and hotel sectors (3.1% compared to 4%). Conversely, costs continued to climb for food and non-alcoholic beverages, rising to 3.7% from 3.4%, as well as for furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance (up to 2.2% from 1.2%), and transport (increasing to 2.7% from 2.2%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.4% in December, counteracting a 0.7% rise in the previous month.
