US Crude Oil Inventories Rise More than Expected: EIA

In the week ending January 16, 2026, U.S. crude oil inventories increased by 3.602 million barrels, surpassing the anticipated rise of 1.1 million barrels. At the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub, crude oil storage experienced a jump of 1.478 million barrels for the week, marking the highest increase since August 2025. Gasoline inventories also saw a substantial rise of 5.977 million barrels, significantly exceeding predictions of a 1.7 million-barrel increase. Meanwhile, distillate stocks, which encompass diesel and heating oil, grew by 3.348 million barrels, contrary to expectations of a 0.2 million-barrel decline.
