Brazil Mid-Month Inflation Eases in January

In the first half of January 2026, Brazil's mid-month consumer prices registered a rise of 0.20%, closely aligning with analysts' predictions of a 0.21% increase and slightly under December's 0.25% growth. The category with the most significant impact and variation was health and personal care, which rose by 0.81%. Communication and household items also contributed notably, with increases of 0.73% and 0.43%, respectively. The food and beverages sector, which holds the greatest weight in the index, saw its growth accelerate from 0.13% in December to 0.31% in January. In contrast, there were price declines in the housing and transportation sectors, with decreases of 0.26% and 0.13%, respectively. When examining year-on-year figures, mid-month inflation rose to 4.50%, up from 4.41% previously, slightly lower than the forecasted 4.51%.
