US Crude Oil Stocks Unexpectedly Fall: EIA

In the week ending January 23, 2026, US crude oil inventories experienced a decline of 2.296 million barrels, contrary to market predictions which had anticipated a rise of 1.75 million barrels. Stockpiles at the Cushing, Oklahoma delivery hub specifically saw a reduction of 278 thousand barrels. Conversely, gasoline inventories increased by 224 thousand barrels, a figure that fell short of forecasts which had suggested a rise of 1.3 million barrels. Meanwhile, distillate inventories, encompassing diesel and heating oil, saw an uptick of 329 thousand barrels, despite expectations for a decline of 550 thousand barrels.
