Brazil CPI Edges Up in January

Brazil’s consumer price index (CPI) increased by 4.44% year-on-year in January 2026, up from 4.26% in December and broadly in line with market expectations of 4.43%. Price pressures strengthened notably in housing (10.06% vs. 6.79%) and communication (1.78% vs. 0.77%). In contrast, inflation slowed in food and beverages (2.20% vs. 2.95%), clothing (4.88% vs. 4.99%), and transport (2.36% vs. 2.65%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.33% in January, matching the increase recorded in the previous month.
