Australia Q4 Home Loans Hit Record Peak

The value of new owner-occupier loan commitments for Australian dwellings surged 10.6% quarter-on-quarter in Q4 2025 to a record AUD 65.3 billion, accelerating from a revised 6.2% rise in the previous quarter. Demand from first-home buyers climbed 15.5%, the strongest quarterly increase in two years, while loans to non–first-home buyers rose 6.5%. On an annual basis, owner-occupier lending was up 9.8%. Meanwhile, investment lending for housing increased 7.9% to AUD 43.0 billion, a marked slowdown from a downwardly revised 9.2% gain in the prior quarter. Year-on-year, however, the value of investment loans still jumped 31.8%.
