Retail sales in Estonia rose 8.2% year-on-year in January 2026, rebounding from a 0.4% decline in December and reaching their fastest growth since April 2022. Sales of motor fuel in specialised stores accelerated to 24.2% in January from 10.2% in the previous month, largely reflecting lower fuel prices. The turnover of motor fuel retailers includes not only fuel sales but also total revenue from other goods and services, such as catering. Sales in industrial goods stores increased by 13% year-on-year. In contrast, grocery store sales fell 2% compared with a year earlier, pressured by higher food prices. Month-on-month, retail sales dropped 13.6% after a 13.2% increase in December, a typical pullback following the holiday-driven surge.
