Austria Jobless Rate Rises to 8.3%

Austria’s unemployment rate rose to 8.3% in February 2026, up from 8.1% in the same month a year earlier. The total number of unemployed individuals increased by 10,094 year-on-year, reaching 357,518.

By gender, the female unemployment rate climbed by 0.4 percentage points to 7.2%, with 144,775 women out of work. The male unemployment rate inched up by 0.1 percentage points to 9.4%, corresponding to 212,743 unemployed men.

Dependent employment remained broadly stable at 3,929,000, a slight decline of 4,000 compared with January 2025. The number of women in dependent employment rose by 7,000 to 1,872,000, while the number of men and other genders fell by 11,000 to 2,057,000.

Including individuals participating in training programs, the combined total of unemployed persons and training participants reached 436,160, an increase of 6,220.
