France Industrial Output Rebounds in January

France’s industrial production rose by 0.5% month-on-month in January 2026, matching market expectations and rebounding from a 0.5% decline in December. Manufacturing output increased by 0.6%, following a 0.7% drop in the previous month, driven exclusively by a sharp recovery in transport equipment production (+9.9% vs -12.8% in December). This was led by a strong rise in other transport equipment (+19.1% vs -20.1%), particularly in the aerospace sector.

In contrast, production declined in several key segments: food products and beverages (-0.8% vs +1.9%), coke and refined petroleum products (-3.4% vs -0.9%), and computer, electronic, and optical products (-0.5% vs +1.9%). Output in mining and quarrying, energy, and water supply was flat (0.0% vs +0.1%), while construction activity contracted by 1.4%, with all construction segments posting declines.

On a year-on-year basis, overall industrial activity increased by 1.9%. Over the latest three-month period, it edged up by 0.1% compared with the preceding three months.
