Italy’s Harmonised Inflation Eases Slightly to 1.5% in February

Italy’s Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) edged down to 1.5% year-over-year in February 2026, from 1.6% in the previous reading, according to data updated on 17 March 2026. The indicator is calculated on a year-over-year basis, comparing price levels in February 2026 with those in February of the previous year.

The previous figure of 1.6% represented the year-over-year change recorded in the prior month, also benchmarked against the same month a year earlier. The latest reading therefore signals a marginal easing in inflationary pressures in Italy, suggesting that consumer prices—measured on the harmonised EU methodology—are continuing to grow, but at a slightly slower pace than in the previous period. Investors and policymakers will be watching subsequent releases to assess whether this moderation in inflation proves temporary or marks the beginning of a more sustained trend.
