UK Jobless Claims Edge Lower in February, Easing from January Peak

The United Kingdom’s labour market showed a modest improvement in February, as the Claimant Count Change eased to 24.7K, down from 28.6K recorded in January 2026. The latest figure, updated on 19 March 2026, indicates a smaller monthly increase in the number of people claiming jobless benefits compared with the start of the year.

Although the Claimant Count is still rising, the slowdown in February suggests some stabilisation after January’s higher reading. Markets and policymakers will be watching upcoming releases closely to assess whether this softer pace of increase marks the beginning of a more sustained improvement in labour market conditions or merely a brief pause in underlying weakness.
