European Stocks Head for Lower Open

European equity markets were poised to open lower on Tuesday, giving back gains from the previous session as hopes for de-escalation in the Middle East faded. Sentiment deteriorated after Iran denied holding talks with the United States aimed at resolving the standoff and continued to target US assets in the region, while Israel launched new strikes against both Iran and Lebanon.

Global equities had rebounded on Monday after President Donald Trump delayed planned strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure by five days and asserted that productive discussions were taking place. In Europe, investors will scrutinize manufacturing data from across the region for clues on how businesses are managing amid elevated geopolitical uncertainty. In premarket trading, futures on the Euro Stoxx 50 and Stoxx 600 were down 0.7% and 0.9%, respectively.
