Trump’s China Visit Rescheduled for May 14–15 After Delay

U.S. President Donald Trump will travel to Beijing on May 14–15 for a high-level summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the White House announced Wednesday. Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said the “long-awaited meeting” has been rescheduled for those dates after being postponed amid rising tensions related to the U.S.–Iran conflict. The visit had initially been planned to begin on March 31.

Leavitt emphasized that ending the war was not a precondition for setting new dates, noting that Xi understood Trump needed to remain in the United States during ongoing “combat operations” and agreed to the delay. The White House also said Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will host Xi and his wife in Washington later this year.
