Malta Producer Inflation at Over 2-Year High

Producer prices in Malta rose by 1% year-on-year in February 2026, quickening from an upwardly revised 0.3% increase in January. This was the highest annual rate since January 2024. The acceleration was driven mainly by a strong rebound in prices for intermediate goods (up 2% after a 0.9% decline in January), while energy prices were unchanged (0%). In contrast, price growth for capital goods eased slightly (3.9% vs 4.3%), and deflation deepened for consumer goods (-0.6% vs -0.2%), particularly among non-durable consumer goods. By market, annual price growth for the domestic sector slowed to 0.9% in February from 1.5% in the previous month, whereas prices in non-domestic markets returned to growth, rising 1% after a 0.9% drop. On a monthly basis, producer prices increased by 0.6% in February, up from a 0.4% gain in January.
